History
The Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club Limited was originally
established from the initiative of members of the local
RSL Sub-Branch. A public meeting on the 18th September,
1947 saw the establishment of a committee for the purpose
of forming a club to be known as the Coomealla Memorial
Club.
Funding for the building was by interest free loans, supported
by donations. The final cost of the original building was
£5,000 (pounds).
The original building comprising of bar, billiards room
and one other small room was officially opened by Lt. General
Sir Stanley Savige on the 23rd September, 1950.
Although initiated by the local RSL Sub-Branch, it is not
an RSL Club.
Since it’s initial inception, the Coomealla Club has
undertaken a number of extensive building renovations to
improve the facilities and amenities for members and their
guests. Major renovations were conducted in 1972, in 1985-86
the Club underwent a huge transformation costing $3.2 million.
Further renovations were undertaken and completed in 1993,
2002 and most recently in 2004.
In 1993 the Coomealla Club was recognised for the development,
promotion and support of sport by being identified as the
Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club Limited.
Today the Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club has over 11,000
members, incorporating some nine (9) intra club sporting
bodies. In addition to these Intra Clubs, the Coomealla
Memorial Sporting Club provides enormous financial support
and assistance to an extensive number of sporting and community
organisations throughout the local and surrounding area.
